According to the kodi tips website, where i saw an install guide, the addon is compatible with kodi 16. Maybe reread that and see if you have downloaded the correct zip file.
Certainly magicality is defunct since November last year. Possibly the same for Release BB.
What repo are you trying to download from.
If you do a google search on the repo http(s) address do you see the repo and its contents? (Magicality used to be in the old wilson repo)
Sounds like a file corruption issue. I would be inclined to delete the Textures13.db file. It will be recreated next time you start kodi/spmc whatever.
If that doesn't work then a kodi/spmc etc reinstall may be needed.
The Droidbox people may see this post and can check what is happening (assuming your box was supplied by them) or you can email them via the contact us link at the foot of the forum.
Say what vpn you are running and whether it running on the box or on the router.
I am not certain of the remote you have but on mine there is a mouse pointer on/off button under the "ok". Try clicking it and see if it makes any difference.
This might work. You don't say whether you using the supplied remote or one of the air mouse type remotes (highly recommended by the way).

The home screen is part of the firmware supplied by 3rd parties.
As I say, firmware updates are rare for these older machines.
On newer machines the widget has just stopped working and droidbox are investigating (there was a thread last week about this).
Here's a thread about the original...
As far as i can remember the weather thing hasn't worked for a long time, since the provider did something to their servers. Certainly since 2016

On most android boxes including those supplied by Droidbox, you can update kodi either from the official kodi site or the google play store. Existing set ups and files are usually retained if you move from consecutive releases e.g. kodi 16.x to 17.x
If your box is supplied by Droidbox you could try the firmwares advertised at the top of the imxpro V2 thread (I am not sure if the links are still active).
This firmware is for machines supplied by Droidbox.
Note the warning in the announcement.
"They are not for ANY other model, even if it has a similar name, they will not work and could damage your machine. Do not flash these files if you do not know which device you have."
Although it references a different model, the explanation is generic and hopefully answers your question

I've tagged Droidbox @Dave C to confirm that. Certainly the server version used to be preinstalled on some Droidbox models.
I take it all other mouse functions work ok?
I have 2 boxes and 2 remotes.
One remote is the droidbox vip plus.
The older one is the droidbox s77 equivalent which they no longer do.
Both worked out of the box.
I didn't need to touch settings.
I notice in the version of android my box runs (5) under settings there is a "remote and...
Maybe the "mousey" bit has been disabled. From memory there is a button that switches mouse movement on/off (under and to the right of the ok button).
All i can add is that it worked for me without doing anything (and i use the nova launcher)
From memory a single click opens the app.
Loooong press opens a little submenu of app options (remove from home screen, delete, app info).
I get focus and move icon in one action.
