Es file explorer has an inbuilt file downloader as does chrome. Thought there was also default on droidboxes. Are you sure it has not downloaded to your "downloads" folder then you need to click on the .APK file.

It can depend on what version of android you are using. But make sure you are using the default droidbox launcher. Click settings on that and check the display options. Certainly android 4.4.2 had an option to display/suppress the status bar.

If you are talking about an android update, you can't. The amlogic chipset used does not support a higher version. You can load a version of kodi that provides kodi 17 functionality though. Try cemc from google play store (i run this successfully) or ftmc from the freaktab people.
