One of the reasons I bought this box over others was because you could add an internal drive.
But the drive is still seen as an external USB drive.
I see from todays DroidBox email that this has been rectified with the new V2. Will DroidBox update the V1 as there seems little point in adding an internal drive if it's not seen as an internal drive

Hi

It is not crucial weather it is detected as internal/external because it can not be served as a data transfer for installed apps from internal storage.

I have been told by DroidBOX Support that when you put in your HDD, it gives you the option to set it up as internal storage. Reformat s it and then it only sees the HDD and not the 32gb partition as the main storage.

So now you can install apps directly to your HDD.

That is what I wanted it to do but I have the V1. Does anyone know if the V1 is likely to be updated to be able to do this.

This function is to do with Android 6 Marshmallow. So when you get that you'll be able to use this option.

Are you saying that it is not possible to update the v1 to marshmallow 6 because of the S812 not being compatible.

I thought I had bought a top of the range box. I wouldn't expect it to be outdated so quickly. Maybe it was already old technology when I bought it.

How could it be updated? The chip manufacturer is responsible for updating source code for their chips. Droidbox has no voice on the inside of the AMLogic company. So until AMLogic releases an sdk for the S800 series, no device on planet earth with an S812 will get 6.0 code. There is nothing Droidbox or any other box supplier running s812 chips can do about that.

You have to remember that when this box was designed, it was top of the range. No technology is Infanently upgradable.

There comes a point where you have to embrace technology and go with it. Technology never stands still, it keeps moving.

So the question is, will AMLogic bother to keep the S812 updated.

Fritz I understand that technology moves on and maybe it was just bad luck with the timing when I bought it. No manufacturer would tell you, you are buying something that is about to be replaced.

I probably wouldn't care about updating so much if the box did what I was expecting it to.

I thought that boxes I had looked at came with very limited memory, similar to mobile phones. So when I saw this I thought I would be able to expand the size of the internal drive to whatever I wanted up to 2TB. But in reality the compartment is not for expanding existing memory, it is for hiding an external drive which is a good idea if you want to have an external drive permanently connected.

It is just frustrating and disappointing that the box that does this is released just after buying a box that doesn't.

I think it comes down to the definition of internal drive.

If I buy an external drive and put it in a box does it become an internal drive? I would say no it's an external drive in a box.

Hi - I am a novice when it comes to Android and recently purchased the T8-S V2, together with a 1TB WD HDD. I have almost everything set up except the internal HDD which I fitted into the bay underneath. By using ES File Explorer, then going to LOCAL and choosing the "Storage & Reset" option, I was able to choose "Browse" which made the Internal WD Drive visible (shows up as WDC WD10 USB DRIVE), by then choosing the "Set up as Internal Storage" option I was able to format the drive BUT although it now appears to be formatted, underneath it indicates "Not Connected".

I am now stuck - can anybody assist me on how and where I go to get it connected?

welcome to android v6, i had to format in android, you cant do it in libreELEC on the new v2 box.

can you do a test for me please, can you install .apk from a usb i keep getting error when i try to install any .apk but if i download them its ok.
