Boxes with the same specs have been added to the device tree folder in the latest funhouse builds by the CoreELEC team. It is just a matter of finding the right dtb file in there that will boot C E for this specific box. I did my a95x plus s905y2 (similar chipset to the s905x) box last night, took me a good few hrs to get it to boot from usb when I finally found its correct dtb file, running smooth as silk now with wifi/ bt and has put my t8 mini on the scrapheap. Note that these are diy test builds and not full releases and leave well alone if your not clued up on a pc. Read up here 1st:-

Thanks for taking the time to reply sean99.

I downloaded CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-9.2-funhouse_2006.7-Generic.img and tried it on both a 32GB SD Card and 32GB USB stick by writing the image to the storage with Rufus and copying sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit.dtb to the root and renaming to dtb.img.

Unfortunately I just can't see a way of getting the Droix X3 to boot off the external media as it doesn't seem to have a reset button or anything to press on power on.

Yes it has to be used with the toothpick method, is the reset button in the av socket on this device? It was for me on the a95x I used.

The crafty sods, its the same with this one too so thanks for letting me know.

I have now had a successful boot into CoreELEC using device tree sm1_s905x3_4g.dtb but with the caveats listed below.

Booting both sm1_s905x3_2g_1gbit.dtb abd sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit.dtb both just present a black screen with no activity on the boot media.

From the bootable build of CoreELEC I was able to test the following using an LG C9 OLED and Onkyo reveiver and media on a USB drive.

Working - 4K60 HDR remux
Working - 4K24 HDR remux
Working -1080p60 remux
Working -1080p24 remux
Working - Dolby Atmos / TrueHD passthrough
Working - DTS-X / DTS-HMA passthrough

Not working - LAN
Not working - WiFi
Not working - Bluetooth
Not working - Playback of content (HDR or SDR) would quite often either start as a black screen or end as black screen. You could still hear the sound so restarting and/or ending the media playback would show the screen again after an attempt or two.
Not working - Dolby Vision passthrough brings up the HDR option on the TV whereas when the content is played back directly from the USB port of the TV it comes up as Dolby Vison.
Not working - Suspend puts the device to sleep but there is no way of bringing it back afterwards as no inputs seem to work.

The performance of the menu interface and playback was excellent though which gives me some hope for the device.

As the C E team suggests if your dtb is not in the device tree folder to ssh into your box with putty using this command:-
cat /proc/device-tree/le-dt-id
to determine your box specific dtb

I'm waiting on a USB->LAN dongle that will hopefully work and allow me to SSH to the CoreELEC instance. At the moment I can't bring up a terminal window in CoreELEC to run the command.

I bought one of these after previously seeing it was used by other CoreELEC users but sadly it isn't recognised either when plugged in.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382839154506
It connected straight away using the usb 3 port, only got 2 usbs on this device usb2 and usb3. It is recommended to use the ethernet in the usb3 port

Finally got a chance to run through each dtb using the latest CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-9.2-nightly_20200218-Generic.img build and here are the results.

Not working - Permanent black screen on the TV.

g12a_s905x2_2g_1gbit.dtb
g12a_s905x2_4g_1gbit.dtb
sm1_s905d3_khadas_vim3l.dtb
sm1_s905x3_2g_1gbit.dtb
sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit.dtb

Not working - Continual Reboots.

g12b_a311d_khadas_vim3.dtb
g12b_s922x_odroid_n2.dtb
g12b_s922x_odroid_n2_dvb.dtb
g12b_s922x_ugoos_am6.dtb
g12b_s922x_ugoos_am6_rev_a.dtb

Not working - Continual Reboots & Corrupt boot Logo.

g12b_s922x_beelink_gt_king.dtb
g12b_s922x_beelink_gt_king_rev_a.dtb

CoreELEC Working but with no detected network or bluetooth devices (internal or external)
(Note: Both g12a device trees boot the initial partition formating screen and once complete require a hardware reboot before loading CoreELEC. The sm1 device trees do not require this extra step.)

g12a_s905x2_2g.dtb
g12a_s905x2_4g.dtb
sm1_s905x3_2g.dtb
sm1_s905x3_4g.dtb

Thanks for that, I see none are available now but I might get something similar from Amazon and see if that works.

As a matter of interest I plugged my original external NIC device into Windows and device manager shows it as a Realtek USB GbE Family Controller. Does yours show up as the same?

Anytime lets hope the C E team can get hold of the necessary drivers to get the job done.

Working with the CoreELEC team at the moment and they have confirmed thats its an mt7668 chipset but would need a firmware .img to examine the device tree.

I don't see one on the site so just asking if you happen to know if that is available at all?
