Most of the free addons are going down hill. Everything wants everything for free on kodi. That's why most things don't work. Peepole making videos on YouTube don't help.
I have had this problem in the past it was a odd one. I got a Gb home network bit my 4k and 1080p was buffering only some times. The guys at droidbox sent me another box and never had the problem again. When I get home I will post the settings I use in video playback section.

its to big to fit in the box, so you will have to rest the droidbox on top of the HDD. not ideal SSD is the way to go.
I set up my v2 box up for my uncle yesterday, i had the same problem in LE but i booted to android then booted back to LE and it auto detected the 4K output.
is the IR still working on the remote, a way to test it is use your mobile phone camera or any other camera you got. point the remote at the camera and see if you can see the red IR light.
If I was you I would use a SSD. that's the only downside to the old spinning HDD it keeps spinning at boot up and when not in use.
