There is away you can do it, but it's very complicated.

On your dad's box try clearing data and re-run the wookie wizard and see if this helps. Before you do try going to System inside kodi and then system again and Video output see if you can change the picture size here. If not do the above and again best of luck.
After you deleted the file you need to reboot your box for it to work. If it doesn't sorry for that. As for the other think it must be set on HDMI auto detect and the picture size is at say 1080. Here a link for you to look at...
If that's true that's only one, in the world of kodi add-ons come and go. Also check you can find them in the add-on installer or Ares wizard.
Also droidbox have released kodi 16.0 javis, and it's on there main site under blogs. So you should at leased have one side of your device done.

Most android boxes are still on Kitkat 4.4.2...there are some on jellybean, but it shouldn't effect say kodi or Showbox.
I'm on the latter and all is good.
Make sure you have kodi 15.2 or 16 and you should be fine. Clear cache often and keep it a well ventilated place.
You get what you pay for and for $42 (£30) , can't see you getting a quality box.

If I remember if you go into Openelec setting and then system, which should be the one it open up in. Then on the right near the bottom it's should say switch to android side.

This file can also be found in system then underneath file manager scroll down to Profile directory. Click here and the scroll down to database and it should be here.
Now I must say at this time it should work, but if it doesn't then you might need to do a full reset of kodi.
