One of the earliest versions were coming with OK button and power button blued(lightly colored with blue)and those could work without any problems.

It is not crucial weather it is detected as internal/external because it can not be served as a data transfer for installed apps from internal storage.

When new release of Kodi comes up it is possible that custom skin is not properly optimized for it and either does not work properly or fails to load.

If volume is up properly on both your box and your TV please do perform factory reset on your device.

If you do update your box it is not mandatory but recommended to perform factory reset afterwards so update could be applied properly and app would be on fresh install.

Can you please tell us if this occur on OpenELEC/LibreELEC or on Android and if so which version of Kodi and/or DBMC.
