I bought a TS 8 Plus back in the summer. I'm slowly getting the hang of it but issues stil remain:
  1. How do I set up this device when running Kodi such that attached HDD or USB drive can be used as NAS across my network?
  2. How do I set up and ensure a particular startup script runs that can do the following:
    1. Run smb
    2. Run openvpn
  3. How do I access the log file to find out why some content can never find an active stream, such that i can tell the difference between
    1. There's a problem with my setup
    2. There's a problem with there being no content to access (presumably without some access password)
Any help / direction appreciated.

I can answer point 3.
Either look in
  • Android:{storage}/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/temp/kodi.log
Or set up Kodi debugging and create a file to just store details of the events associated with the error. If you only use Addons from the tvaddons team you can send them the debug file and they will analyse it for you (if you use Addons from another third party you will get short shrift). See their forum for instructions.

If this helps you - I have a WD Live Hub 1TB linked to my network. I can see it on my mac upstairs and drop films onto the drive. Its connected to TV via HDMI. All I did was go into videos then files and search for the drive - it found it and linked. I can see it everytime now.
Hope this is some use. I have T8 Mini.

@Bollocks77 Think OP was looking at using the DroidBOX itself as a NAS, rather than connecting to one.

@aggierockdoc
1) SambaDroid - https://droidboxforums.com/threads/local-network-based-apps.101/ . Other SMB/Samba Server apps are available, but that is the one I use. 3rd party app so no official DroidBOX support, but if you run up against a problem, post and we'll take a look.

2) http://kodi.wiki/view/List_of_built-in_functions , http://kodi.wiki/view/Built-in_scripting and http://kodi.wiki/view/autoexec.py should help, autoexec.py seems to be the key file to create/amend. Looks like it is plain text, so you could use notepad on your PC, then transfer the file across

3) See above

@SilentlyScreaming - Oops sorry about that - I thought differently. Didnt read it correctly. Mine does find NAS excellent and quick. I use it all the time to view stored films on NAS.

I recently installed SambaDroid on my Droidbox T8-S Plus for a different purpose and noticed that SambaDroid/AllStorage is visible across my home network. So in principle all the (internal and external) drives attached to my Droidbox are just as visible as my NAS drive and can be used to stream to/from my PCs.
