hi a friend has given me his T8 to update,
It doesn't have the OTA UPDATER,
Just wondered if I can download and install the OTA,
Or do I have to update manually by downloading the firmware files on to a usb drive
Thx.
If you go to the " how to" section via the main droidbox web page there are instructions there on how to get the ota downloader onto Machines bought before July 15 (when the ota updater became a default app). Make sure it is a droidbox t8 you have as downloading this fix and subsequent ota updates could brick other suppliers boxes.
I think i used a pc. Thats the way i've always done it as the utility on the laptop ensures the sd card is formatted (and empty). It definitely works that way.
Someone else may be able to say if you can do it on the box but how would you format the card?
I was hoping to download file to box via browser,
Then was hoping I could point the system update to the file location, don't know if that's possible.thx
The good news is that once you've executed this one off procedure the ota function will be present and you wont have to use the sd card method for future updates.
Hi just turned my friends box on and there is an OTA there,
When I click on it says
The rom developer has not enabled support for the OTA updates please ask them to add support before using this app.
Should I still download on SD and update?thx
@Estwing Yes, if you're certain it is a plain vanilla T8.
Flashing a T8 firmware to a T8-S will lose you openELEC and DroidBOX Share. Flashing it to a T8-S Plus will make you very sad. I think WiFi and Bluetooth will break for starters.
