Hi team

Purchased the Droidbox VIP Plus remote and everything is perfect except the recent apps button

When I press it it gives me a pop up asking to complete action via music or Spotify

Tried to search online but couldn't find anyone discussing the recent apps button

Any help appreciated thanks

The button does not work with the current chipset/firmware combination under android 5. Its been like that for some time so doubt a fix from the firmware developer will be forthcoming.

Even without the recent apps button, any remote is better than the one that is supplied with all android tv boxes.
Presence of the recent apps button was probably the last reason I bought the vip remote.

You will also probably notice the android on screen navigation bar is missing as well. Another firmware issue apparent for many of these types of machine regardless of supplier. There are navigation Apps from Google play store but they do not provide all the functionality on the bar (like recent apps for example).

Yeah I had a remote from an Android Box I had before I got my Droidbox one

The only issue I had with my Droidbox box was the fact you couldn't open recent apps and kill a crashing app aka Kodi or Netflix etc so when I saw this remote I thought my problems were solved so to speak

I saw a Droidbox video saying there is an app which may be useful for this in the meantime so I'll maybe give that a try

Cheers for your reply

On the home launcher screen there is a button which closes all open apps which may be overkill but at least should get rid of a crashing app.

Hi

Please connect your keyboard and hold ALT and while holding press TAB button. This will bring up recent app list.

Afterwards you can use following guide below which will allow you to map custom keys to your likings.

@8bitDev
Has mapping the "recent apps" function to a vip plus remote actually been proven to work by someone at Droidbox?

So we have to remap another remote control in order to get the droidbox one working?

Seems a strange way to do it

I plugged a wireless keyboard in when I hit ALT and TAB it does bring up the recent apps list like I want the remote to do but when using the mkr app it doesn't allow me to change the button to do this on the remote

Just double checking, you've enabled and set the MKR input method within Android's Settings definitely?

Ah, OK, so the recent Apps doesn't get called, and Alt+Tab can't be stacked on one key, nor does it seem to work with a combo on the reverse.
Which device do you have the VIP Plus's dongle attached to? We'll see if there is a different workaround. The i8 (and i9/H9/i12 and I think i18), if you don't mind switching from air mouse to touchpad is quite good for various key combos across different OS, if you're still within your refund period.
