Hi everyone

Has anyone had any experience installing linux on a t8-s

Thinking of changing to OSMC or similar but it needs linux to run.

All advice gratefully received.

Thanks

I thought osmc was built on linux (debian) and kodi. Presumably you would be attempting to replace openelec as the alternative boot up? Reviews i've read suggest openelec outperforms osmc but is less expandible.
Sounds scary to me though with the risk of destroying your machine.
If you are thinking of replacing both os (android and openelec) then it may be worth experimenting with a cheapo cheapo chinese box first?

Problem I have is that the current openelec on t8-s has kodi 15.2 which makes lots of addons unusable as most of them are built on kodi 16 now.

There doesn't seem to be an update coming soon for openelec either - certainly not for the t8-s. They seem to be concentrating more on their own boxes and the raspberry pi - which is a lot less powerful than the t8-s?!!

Thanks

Somewhere over the rainbow
Can you tell me which add-ons aren't working, I don't seem to have a problem.
If you use a wizard try clearing data inside kodi and re-run one.
Some add-ons have moved and this might be why.
You can also add the URL yourself...be nice to no which ones are playing up.

It may be an issue with some of the builds rather than individual addons. @sean99 might be able to confirm (although he may be on holiday now).
At any rate openelec 7 is currently under dev/testing with kodi 16.

As you seem to know what you are doing, you could try one of the beta versions of openelec although again there is a risk.
Is android that bad? I've never experienced issues. Its usually the servers the streams reside on.

Yes can confirm my build and other builds built on Jarvis 16.1 will not work on Kodi 15.2 Openelec.
