I keep getting notified there's an update, it tries to install it then EVERYTIME crashes out with this error :

UPGRADE IN PROGRESS
Please do not reboot or turn off your LibreELEC device!
Found new .tar archive
Extracting contents of archive... done
Checking KERNEL.mds... OK
Checking SYSTEM.nd5... OK
*** Error in check update: mount connon: Could not mount /storage/.update sYSTEM
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

I have now deleted the update, and switched to manual update, any ideas what's wrong ??
TIA

There is no update for LibreELEC but we did get some reports from others that they had a similar issue. You can leave it on manual update to stop it trying to update.

I'm having the same problem. I was using LibreELEC last night and it was flashing up that an update was available. Now on startup it's showing the error above. I can't get past the boot screen to set it to manual. Would appreciate any advice.

This is what I'd like to do as well. I'm hoping it's not a complete reinstall. I think that Tally was trying to update from within Kodi so wasn't stuck at the boot. Maybe there is a way of going in through Android to delete the files.

did a wipe in Android and started again.

Booted into Libre
Update flagged up and downloaded before I could do anything.
Changed update to manual. Reconfigured Libre and rebooted.

Same problem - Update kicked in. Same as before. Back to square one.

Any guidance on how get round this ?

Can we please have sort of update on this issue.
There are other droidbox owners with same issue so don't quite understand at the lack of response!

We are closed over the weekend so have not been able to reply. Could you please email [email protected] with your order number, or the post code where the order was sent to and include a link to this post for reference. Our technicians will be able to look in to what is causing the issue. Thanks.

@droidbox: Utterly useless support - I won't be buying from you again!

If anyone else has the same problem here's how to fix it:

When you get the error message on boot simply connect a USB keyboard and type the following EXACTLY:

Code:
rm -rf /storage/.update/*
reboot

Update 2019-09-17 (a bit more info so people don't wipe their boxes):
The first line (the rm -rf /storage/.update/*) removes the downloaded update it was trying to install from the device so when you do the reboot command it won't try to install the update and will boot up to the system as normal.

What you need to do then is go into the Settings->Librelec Settings and set system updates to manual.

Unfortunately in the meantime the device will have re-downloaded the update so when you next reset it, it will try to install the update again.

Repeat the rm -rf /storage/.update/* and the reboot command and this time the system won't download the automatic update again and you won't have lost anything.

Unfortunately all that does is a system reset, and it still comes up with the automatic update, so you’re just back to square one. And you can’t get into the system fast enough to stop the automatic updates from happening.

Can I ask what you did, as having the same issue. Tried the above and just reboots to the same issue.
Thanks
Yeah no problem, you can't just go into the libreelec settings and switch off auto updates via the settings menu, you have to go to the libreelec large icon down under addons i think it is, long press on that, and go to settings there, and turn off auto updates that way. I'm not 100% sure as I'm not in front of my tv right now, if that doesn't make any sense, I'll have another look tonight.

Here's what I've Done,
Had to do a system reset first to get back into Librelec.
Then changed the skin to confluence.
Went into Libreelec configuration (programs) and in system and set automatic updates to manual and turn off notifications .
Now went back out and did a long press on the icon to get the sub menu up. I clicked on information and turned off auto updates.
Then I rebooted, it still did the updates with the error, but I typed in

rm -rf /storage/.update/*
reboot

Thanks to RayZor for that and that's sorted for now.
You will need and air mouse with keyboard or USB keyboard to do this.
Thanks to all for your help.
