Is there a ‘mono’ version of Kodi avail. or similar where the files can be copied over the previously install ? Or does anyone know how to update Kodi on Asustor ?

On most android boxes including those supplied by Droidbox, you can update kodi either from the official kodi site or the google play store. Existing set ups and files are usually retained if you move from consecutive releases e.g. kodi 16.x to 17.x
