You may want to check video acceleration under system>videos>acceleration(make sure that settings are on expert mode in order to see them visible).
You can try to enable/disable all of them and see which one works for you.

Hi, Kodi have released a new version for people on android who are having problems with kodi crashing on start up.

managed to download kodi 17.5.1 krypton-arm64-V8a.apk but when trying to install it says APP not installed so kodi still does not open

64 bit APK is for 64 bit devices WITH a 64 bit version of Android also installed.
32 bit APK if for 32 bit devices with 32 bit Android installed, OR 64 bit Android device with 32 bit Android installed.
If you're ever not sure, check the About (Phone/Device/Tablet) entry when you go to Android's Settings (you may first need to click on the More Settings entry), or install something like ZDeviceTest https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zausan.zdevicetest , then I think it was scroll down and click on the Android OS entry.

If you have a 32 bit (in terms of hardware) device, then it can ONLY run 32 bit versions of Android. So (if given a choice), 32 bit Android apps are compatible.
If you have a 64-bit device, it COULD have either a 32 or a 64 bit version of Android installed. If it has 32 bit installed, see above. If it has 64 bit version of Android installed (you can find out with the app mentioned above), then try the 64 bit version of an app first. If that fails, try 32 bit instead.
