Home button on remote control no longer works

Can you please turn on the camera on your smartphone, then point the remote into the lens and press the home button. Will you see a blinking light on screen of your smartphone?

Aldehulme, if your remote control is working, don't forget to try and exit programs, rather than pressing the home button.
As an example, to close XBMC, click on the little power/standby icon in the bottom left of your XBMC's homescreen, normally next to the favourites' star icon (depending on the skin you use).
Click that, and if asked, select Exit.
