I've watched this video twice now and I don't see anything about how to format HHD!

It's in the openelec setting menu under system and then near the bottom it clearly says formating HDD drive.
Pause it around 8 mins 28 seconds and you will see it.

After you've formated the drive then next you will need to set a pathway in the add-on. It's normally in the add-on setting ...you get this by pressing the menu button on your remote inside the add-on (phoenix) and go to the downloads part.
