Forum - risk of being spammed

There is more and more crap from spammers being used as threads. I rana forum for years and I know its difficult to stop but it sort of spoils the feel and look of the site.
Any ideas admin to get rid?

The overwhelming majority of it gets stopped and put into moderation (non-public). The bits that get through, we remove, ban the spammers account and IP and a few other things. We've tightened up the spam rules, but there is a balance to be struck, too tight and normal users find genuine messages don't get through.
If anyone has experience with Xenforo forums and knows of a killer spam add-on, let us know. We've several in play already (don't want to post them up in public), but it could be that a better add-on is available.

Its difficult to keep on top of it as an admin - its just one of those things. The forum is mint.
