If I set up Showbox or more importantly on a paid app, a sports event that takes place at "silly o'clock here in Malaysia. The box reverts to a screen saver (digital clock.. As that's what I have set it to) after an hour. I mean the screen saver not the time.
In display settings I have daydream set to max...1hr, and sleep set to never.
In more settings, device, display... The max for sleep is 30 minutes, but I haven't ticked any of the boxes.

Yes.. I know it's illegal to record... But I'm in Malaysia.. ..lol

Thank you for the interest in my problem.

I noticed you had posted this before Ian. I guess the answers posted then did not work.
I think we are all intrigued about how you get one of these boxes to record a stream (live or even one about to start in 5 minutes) as I don't think anyone here has been able to crack that. So can you provide instructions for that?

The only two apps I know of that allows recording are Showbox, and that is instant record of tv and movies, and a paid add on "Smoothstreams".
Smoothstreams is predominantly sports, with the occasional US tv show. However.. The record facility is down at the moment, but they promise to put that right soon...
I won't hold my breath Lol.
I thought I saw a post somewhere the other day saying a new version of Ruya is on the way, with a record facility included, but for the life of me, I can't find it now.
If that comes to pass.. I hope they plan to increase the number of servers, as I recon subscriptions will go through the roof.
Mobdro have been promising record since I first found it.. But still waiting after several months

I have the showbox android app and as far as i am aware there is no "instant record" function although you can download movies and tv shows for later viewing - a function that is not confined to Showbox. Many apps and kodi addons support downloading.

I don't know anything about the "smoothstreams" app (or is it an addon?).

The fact that the record function does not work in that should tell you everything about the state of record functionality on android boxes. So for now, i would say the ability to prevent the box sleeping is moot.

I cannot comment on ruya boxes other than my son in law has one and confirms there is no record facility.

Thank you once more for your interest.. I used the wrong terminology when saying instant record.. Put it down to me being a silly old fart, and yes.. Smoothstreams is an add on.. As is Ruya
I agree it is a moot point at the moment, but hopefully Smoothstreams will come up trumps eventually. In the meantime there are occasions when in my absence I'd like to download more than one film, or even a complete tv series, which isn't possible at the present time.
I would be interested to find out the other apps and add owns that provide downloading.
Thank you once more.

Certainly the BBC iplayer android app, showbox app and movie hd android apps support downloading.
As for Addons your best bet is to check their configuration menus (in settings - my Addons) to see if they support downloading. You will need to be able to define the download file location on your machine. Certainly Exodus supports downloading, probably others (other users here may be able to add to the list)

The following addons support a download feature in their settings:

Exodus, specto, phoenix, salts, velocity, alluc, navi x.

However with the correct settings selected in Super Favourites, you can down load any stream except for live tv streams. So you would be able to download from Ehub, M4U, DDL boxsets, more power etc. Addons that don't support that feature, there's also Dreamcatcher. More complicated to set up than Super Favourites though.
