Android 5.0 Or Higher - Updating

Is there a update (even if manual) that updates to Android 5.0 or higher? - (I know there is not one being officially distributed openly)

I know a year+ ago there were talks in other forum threads that there was an Android version 5.0 in limited testing.

The amlogic chip used in the old t8-s does not support android versions later than 4.4. People using machines with that chip from all suppliers have failed to successfully apply android 5 firmware without breaking something (usually wifi).

Brand new to all this and bought a T8-s and need 5.0 or higher to run what I need, is this still final and can't be done?

Yes.
The Droidbox T8S is quite an old machine now.

I understand that did not pass testing. Something broke. As mentioned above often it was wifi.

There is no update for the T8-S beyond Android 4. There was a test version but it had many issues including issues especially internet connection.
