T8s creaking at the seams, running poorly and unable to clear space

Pretty much as above!
My T8s running 4.4.2 kernel 3.10.33 is starting to bog down and run poorly. Showbox won't even update and is getting unstable. I have a mere 80mb of internal space left. Irritatingly 2gb is listed in the downloads filed but when I open it it only shows a single 3.5mb file called showbox upgrade (from Aug 15)
The misc folder also allegedly contains 1.8gb but when I try and open it an empty pane just hangs.
Any suggestions?
My dad recently got a t8s with an updated looking splash page compared with mine but when I run OTA updater it says I have no available updates.
Any and all advice appreciated

You need more space.

Go into app manager and clear the files and cache in the biggest offenders.

Use esfile explorer to view the folders you're struggling with and make sure view hidden files is on

Clear the cache in xbmc.

If you have lots of apps downloaded, you might well have to lose some.

Otherwise, last resort is a reset

Used the above to empty out downloads so plenty of operating space now thanks!
Can I get the box updated to the latest version that is shipping these days?

If the ota updater is saying no updates for the box then take that as fact. As new features get tested by droidbox for compatibility they will be released. Eg. Android lollipop is under testing for these boxes.
Things like new versions of kodi howver dont need an ota update and can be applied manually.
