My child is spending too much time on the T8! Is there a way to password protect it so no one can access anything, including the browser unless they have a password?

Yes, and it is similar to the way you would set it up on an android phone.
Go to android settings-device-lock screen-screen security
choose how you want the lock screen to behave e.g. Must enter pin.
If you get tired of it, you can unset it all here as well (but you need the pin to get here so don't forget it!)

You may need to switch skins, but it is also worth looking at what Kodi's profiles can achieve. Not exactly going to stop a determined child from deleting files to regain access, but
might be an interesting quick watch.
