Hi, I just bought a Droidbox Playon as I couldn't find a GDP XD in this country so I got this, now questions if you don't mind helping

1: is there custom 'droidbox' firmware I can use ...or... will standard GDP XD custom firmware work on this?

2: it came with a 2 pin plug and they won't work here and I don't trust adaptors, can I charge the device with my apple ipad aid usb charger (10 watts) if not, can I charge it via my PC using a usb3 socket (for more power than usb2) ??

3: is it safe to remove all the un-needed bloatware that comes with it and apps I won't use?

Thank you

To ensure you get a speedy response can i suggest you contact support direct by email. You may even catch them on live chat (see main droidbox page) if you hurry. I dont think there are many playon users on the forum although i know @David Savage has one.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Droidbox did have a unofficial firmware which has now been removed from this site. But it should have been on your device if you just brought it..
As for charging I use my plug from my Hudl2 which is 5v = 2A the same as the plug that came with the device and I've had no issues so far. So I would check your chargers match......you might need a magnifying glass for that. Saying that it doesn't need charging much.
As for removing software I haven't done this as there plenty of space plus the SD card slot to expand it further more.

Hope this helps you.

You can use any USB port you like, as long as it is a good quality charger or device with USB port. I've not got a PlayON to test with my USB power meter, but in general, the less powerful USB sockets (bad terminology, but you get the idea) will be OK, just take longer to charge up the PlayON fully.

The power supply with your device should have come with an adapter, if you're not happy using one of those and don't want to charge via USB at some point, you could grab an American four/six way mains extension, and rewire the cable to have a UK mains plug. I have a couple of European mains 6 way adaptors wired like this, as it was quicker than rewiring all my leads when we moved back from Kazkahstan.
