I have the newer model (v2) and it has android 4.4.2.
There is an ftmc fork for rockchip processors. This had Python code to get around the https thing. It is not a krypton version.
I tried downloading from the ares project site last Friday but for some reason the freaktab link was down (maybe they were preparing the Kodi patches for the latest hacked version).
You could try again or Google ftmc rockchip to see if there are other versions out there.

I have just seen an announcement today about a new v3 which runs android 5

Yes Nigelar, just seen that also. I think Sean@99 tried the rockchip that was stable and worked well, think it was mcgee or something like that. My problem is that I found that I couldn't put a build on it but found that one or two addons worked ok. To be honest all am looking for is to update to a version that works. Must be behind the times lol
